Absolute data security
US cloud systems such as Airtable, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace are widespread, but the security of your data can fall by the wayside there. The so-called Patriot Act allows US authorities such as the FBI, the NSA or the CIA to access the servers of US companies and siphon off personal data without a court order.
The SeaTable Cloud is hosted exclusively in German data centers by Exoscale. This means that your data is subject to the DSGVO and is much better protected than with US providers. You can also use SeaTable for sensitive, personal data or in industries that require a higher level of data protection.
Apart from that, you can also host SeaTable yourself. With your own SeaTable server, you have full control over all data flows and storage locations. You only have this absolute data sovereignty with an on-premises system.
On-Premises Option
When installing SeaTable, you have free choice: you alone decide where to set up your system, where your data is located and who has access to it. As a cloud-only solution, Airtable does not offer the option of self-hosting.
SeaTable can be used on Linux servers as well as on Windows servers, dedicated or virtualized. For larger user groups, of course, also in cluster mode.
Free version with more features and higher limits
Most of SeaTable's features are already available in the Free version of SeaTable Cloud and the Developer Edition for self-hosting. So you can get to know SeaTable without obligation and free of charge. For the registration you need nothing but an email address and an internet connection.
SeaTable is also more generous than the competition when it comes to rows and data limits. With SeaTable Free you can store up to 10,000 rows and 2 GB of data.
Cheaper business packages
With comparable functionality, SeaTable Enterprise is much more affordable for your business than Airtable Pro. In addition, SeaTable Enterprise has no line limit, unlimited JavaScript and Python runs, and significantly more storage for your files.
Multilingualism
English may be the number one business language, but it still makes more sense if you can offer your employees a web interface in their local language.
SeaTable currently supports English, German, French, Russian and Chinese. Other languages are planned or the community has already started with the translations. Airtable, on the other hand, is only available in English.

Your URL, your logo, your CI
Airtable is a cloud-only solution. The user interface customization options are therefore limited to visual aspects such as colors and a replacement of the Airtable logo.
As an Airtable alternative, SeaTable offers significantly more advanced customizing options: In Dedicated Cloud and On-Premises installation, you have your custom URL, which you and your employees can use to access your SeaTable system. You determine the colors, the logo used and have full control over the corporate identity. You can also define custom templates, user roles and permissions to reflect your individual needs and company structures.
Technically more powerful
It is not obvious at first glance, but Airtable has a few technical weaknesses that significantly limit its application possibilities when used intensively. 50,000 rows - Airtable does not allow more rows in one base. SeaTable does not have such a hard limit. Especially in a self-hosted system hundreds of thousands of rows are no problem.
Another problem arises when two users work in a Base at the same time. With Airtable, the changes made by other users are not visible immediately, but only after a refresh. In the worst case, this results in data loss. With SeaTable, collaboration is real-time and changes made by team members are immediately visible. A manual refresh is not necessary.

Can I install SeaTable wherever I want?
Yes, definitely. You can install SeaTable Enterprise on your local PC, a virtual machine, in the data center of your choice or even with a cloud server provider of your choice. The only requirement is a Linux operating system with Docker and Docker Compose.
How to install your own SeaTable system?

Can you customize SeaTable to your own corporate identity?
In SeaTable Cloud, the options for customization to your CI are limited - just like with Airtable. With SeaTable Cloud Enterprise you can customize both the logo and the colors, but the URL will always remain https://cloud.seatable.io.
On the other hand, the situation is completely different with a dedicated or on-premises system. You can customize a self-hosted SeaTable system any way you want. You set the URL, define the templates, roles and permissions available to users, and of course you can change the logo and colors. You only have these freedoms with your own on-premises installation, which Airtable can't offer you.
Where can I find more information about the API interface?
To get the most out of SeaTable, you should take a look at SeaTable's REST API Reference. As an Airtable alternative, SeaTable shines with comparatively many API calls that Airtable does not provide.
What is the difference between Free and Enterprise subscription?
Basically, we strive to make SeaTable available to everyone for free. That's why there is both a free cloud version and a freely available Developer Edition for self-installation. However, if you seriously consider SeaTable as an Airtable alternative and want to use it intensively (e.g. in your company), we recommend you to switch to the paid Enterprise subscription of SeaTable Cloud or to use SeaTable Enterprise on your own server.
In the cloud, Enterprise subscription gives you additional features like advanced shares and automations and increases your rows- and storage limit. Details can be found in the price overview.
On-Premises we generally recommend to use SeaTable Enterprise. With up to three users, the SeaTable Server license is free! In addition, there are inexpensive starter packages for small teams. SeaTable Enterprise includes all the features of SeaTable - including support for clusterable backend systems like CEPH, authentication systems like Active Directory, SAML and OAuth and many more relevant features that make your life as an administrator easier. The Developer Edition has the feature set of the Free version.

Is it possible to switch between SeaTable Cloud and On-Premises?

Where does SeaTable store its data? Where are the servers located?
With your own self-hosted system, only you decide where your data is stored.
The servers of our SeaTable Cloud are located 100% in Germany. Thus, your data is subject to the DSGVO and European data protection guidelines.
Where can I get help with developing my own plug-in?
Basically, the idea is that anyone with some programming experience can write and develop their own SeaTable plugins. However, if you like, we can also take over this development for you. Write to us and let's talk about your idea.
What about security? Does one have full data sovereignty with SeaTable?
Definitely. With your own SeaTable on-premises system, you decide where the data is stored. But we also set the highest security standards with our cloud offering. Your data is stored in a German data center, which means it is subject to the DSGVO and European data protection guidelines.
Is SeaTable DSGVO compliant?
It is impossible for software to be GDPR compliant by itself. Any lawyer will tell you that GDPR compliance includes many other things, such as documentation, procedures, and processes. Basically, however, compliance with the GDPR is many times easier if you run your own on-premises system.
If, on the other hand, your data is stored with U.S. cloud services such as Airtable, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, U.S. authorities can access this data - according to the so-called Patriot Act. In our view, the use of these systems is therefore hardly compatible with German data protection laws. If you are looking for an Airtable alternative, you are on the safe side with SeaTable.

What is the difference between SeaTable Cloud and SeaTable On-Premises?
The SeaTable Cloud is a software-as-a-service offering from SeaTable GmbH. We manage and administer the SeaTable system, which you can reach at https://cloud.seatable.io, and you commission us as your service provider to store your data.
With SeaTable On-Premises you are the administrator of your server yourself. You only receive the installation files and the SeaTable Enterprise license key from us and can install and manage the system yourself. Only with an on-premises system you have full data sovereignty.
Can someone do the installation for me?

Can I use my own SeaTable templates?
With your own SeaTable system, you can of course set your own templates - as well as the URL, colors and user roles. The fact that you have your system completely under your control and can customize it to your liking is one of the biggest advantages of SeaTable, the Airtable alternative with self-hosting option.
Does SeaTable support 2-factor authentication or SAML?
Security is a top priority at SeaTable. That's why 2-factor authentication (2FA) is available on our cloud as well as any on-premises system.
SAML, Active Directory or OAuth are only available with a self-hosted SeaTable system.
Can I migrate from Airtable to SeaTable?
Of course. Simple Airtable tables can be exported as Excel files and imported into SeaTable. In addition, there is an Airtable migration script, which also handles the migration of larger tables. More details can be found in the SeaTable Forum.
